Who Writes This Site

r36h.com is written and edited by Kai Mercer, the pen name of the site's editor. Kai is a retro handheld hobbyist who has tested the R36H hands-on and writes each guide from that use plus the published sources cited on the page. When a claim comes from someone else, such as a teardown review or a firmware project's device list, the page names and links that source.

Editorial Independence

R36H.com is an independent publication and is not the manufacturer, an official R36H website, or endorsed by a console brand. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners. We separate editorial guidance from affiliate links and describe the device's limitations as well as its strengths.

Affiliate Disclosure

R36H.com may earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through clearly marked affiliate links. This does not change the price you pay. Sellers, bundle contents, stock and prices can change, so readers should verify the current listing before ordering.

How This Site Is Put Together

Every performance claim on this site is written against one specific piece of hardware: the Rockchip RK3326, a quad-core Cortex-A35 running at 1.5GHz alongside a Mali-G31 GPU and 1GB of memory. That matters because the phrase “retro handheld” covers devices whose capabilities differ by an order of magnitude. A claim that a system runs well is meaningless without saying on what, so our platform pages state the emulator in use, the realistic frame rate, and the settings that change the outcome.

Where We Are Deliberately Negative

The easiest way to write an affiliate site is to describe everything as excellent. We have chosen not to do that, because the fastest way to lose a reader is to tell them a device does something it cannot. Our Nintendo 64, Dreamcast and PSP pages all say plainly that the R36H is compromised on those platforms and that no firmware update will change it, because the limitation is the chipset. If those systems are your priority, we say so and point you towards a more capable tier of device — even though that advice earns us nothing.

What We Do Not Publish

Prices. Amazon pricing changes constantly, and a number printed on a page is wrong within days. We link to the listing and let you see the live figure.
Artificial urgency. No countdown timers, no stock warnings, no claims that an offer is ending. If a page pressures you, it is not helping you decide.
Invented review counts or ratings. Where we describe community sentiment we describe it qualitatively rather than fabricating numbers.
ROMs or game files. We explain folder structures, file formats and BIOS requirements. We do not host, link to or source copyrighted game files.

How We Are Funded

This site is reader-supported through the Amazon Associates programme. When a link here leads to a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. That relationship is disclosed in the footer of every page and again on any page whose purpose is to help you buy. It does not change what we write: the comparison pages recommend rival devices where those devices are genuinely the better choice, and the platform pages describe the R36H's weaknesses in detail.

Corrections

Hardware revisions change, firmware projects add and drop support, and emulator performance moves as cores are updated. If something here is out of date or wrong, we would rather know. Corrections are made to the page itself rather than appended as notes, so what you read is always the current position.

The short version

We describe one device, on one chipset, in specific terms — including the things it does badly. If you only read one page before buying, make it the comparison that matches the alternative you are considering.
