How to Add Games to R36H
Adding games to your R36H is simple using the dual microSD card system.
Method 1: Second SD Card (Recommended)
- Format a new microSD card as FAT32 or exFAT
- Create platform folders:
/roms/nes/,/roms/snes/,/roms/gba/,/roms/psx/, etc. - Copy ROM files into the appropriate folders
- Insert into the R36H TF2 (Games) slot
- Enable Second SD Card in ArkOS settings
Method 2: Single SD Card
Copy ROM files directly to the /roms/ directory on your system SD card via a card reader.
Understanding The Two Slots
The R36H has two microSD slots and they do different jobs. TF1 holds the operating system and boots the device. TF2 is purely storage. Keeping games on the second card is the arrangement worth adopting, because it means you can reflash, replace or experiment with firmware on the first card without ever touching your library.
Formatting And Folder Structure
Format the games card as exFAT unless you have a specific reason not to. FAT32 works but cannot hold any single file above 4GB, which becomes a problem the moment you add a large disc image. Then create a roms folder at the root of the card, and platform folders inside it.
| System | Folder | File types |
|---|---|---|
| NES | /roms/nes/ | .nes, .zip |
| SNES | /roms/snes/ | .sfc, .smc, .zip |
| Game Boy / Color | /roms/gb/, /roms/gbc/ | .gb, .gbc |
| Game Boy Advance | /roms/gba/ | .gba |
| Genesis | /roms/genesis/ | .md, .bin, .gen |
| PlayStation | /roms/psx/ | .chd, .pbp, .cue + .bin |
| Arcade | /roms/fbneo/ | .zip — leave zipped |
Then Tell The System To Look
Copying files across is not the last step. The frontend needs the second card enabled in its settings, and it needs to rescan before new games appear. If a game you definitely copied is missing, work through three things in order: is it in the right folder, is the extension one the emulator accepts, and has the library been refreshed since you added it. That covers almost every case.
Eject the card properly
Pulling a card out of a computer without ejecting it is the most common cause of a corrupted games library on these devices. The copy often appears finished while data is still being written.
